the assamese legend

"Could it be that there is no man fit enough in Your Majesty's realm? What are the enemies? They are after all ordinary mortals. Shall we not find similar men in our country? Your Majesty should only confer the dust of your feet, and the man equal to the occasion will be readily found."

the words that changed the medieval history of assam;came out spontaneously from the mouth of a noble scarf-bearer.this made the king Chakradwaj Singha believe that this noble laureate must be the commander of the ahom army(the origin of assamese) to lead the wall against moghul warrior;who by that time had already captured almost the whole of india to make the moghul dynasty.
the king gifted him a sword made of half gold, the hengdang.he defended guwahati first and placed a barrier at sariaghat(other bank of brahmaputra near guwahati) to blockade the moghul force led by Ram Singh for the 18th and the last attempt made by moghul.

though we don't find any confirmed portrait of him to be found in the history but preserved pen-picture of describe him as moon at it's full phase;noone was capable of staring at him.

he beheaded his maternal uncle(mama) when the fellow was found with insincere attempt to build the wall of blockade.
"My uncle is not greater than my country"("Desotkoi Momai Dangor Nohoi" in Assamese).
the verse is still cited wherever the name of this scarf bearer turned commamder-in-chief's name is recalled.

Ram singh even tried to foul play the war by sending an arrow attached with a message that cited that the commander sold the sovereignty of ahom dynasty to moghuls' for one lakhs rupees.though, the kingh initially lost faith on him,but under the pursuance of prime minister Atan Borhohain, the king still insisted on the commander to continue his post.

his command over the army led to highly innovative way of guerrella warfare tactics, which was unintelligible to the moghul knights and warriors.he fought with a few thousands of warriors in small boats to resist the moghul suppression by lakhs of warriors in ships in the river Brahmaputra.it was a sure defeat of the ahom, but the physical and mental stamina of the commander even during severe fever to fight back till last, let ahom dynasty snatch the cake from Ram Singh's and moghuls' mouth by pushing the moghuls backyard of Saraighat.to this great leader Ram Singh wrote :

"Glory to the king! Glory to the counsellors! Glory to the commanders!Glory to the country! One single individual leads all the forces! Even I Ram Singh, being personally on the spot, have not been able to find any loophole and an opportunity!"

the commander fought till his last.though he died in the midst, while giving colours to the plan of an attack over moghul; he had already built an image about the ahom bravery in the history of medieval history of assam.

hallowed be the commander LACHIT BORPHUKON
